The Labouchere system is frequently used in different games of chance and is especially loved by fans of roulette. It was created in England, approximately in the nineteenth century, by an English politician and essay writer Henry Labouchere. It is sometimes called the “Cross out” or “Split Martingale” strategy. It has quite a simple algorithm, so that even the beginner won't find it difficult to use. The scheme of Labouchere is best used in equal chance games, those where you bet on black/red, even/odd or 1 - 18/19 - 36.
Let's describe how it works in detail. First and most importantly you need to decide how much you are going to spend. Then take a sheet of paper and create a betting line with numbers from 1 to 9 in any order that you wish that total the amount you would like to win. Some players recommend that you create quite a few betting lines in an even quantity (2, 4, 6, 8 etc). To help to explain this system, let´s make a simple betting line 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 2. Next you need to take the number from the far right and add it to the first number on the left, the result will give you the amount of your bet, 4. If you win then you cross off both the first and last numbers in your line, your betting line now looks like this: 2 - 1 - 1 - 2 and your next bet would be for 4 pounds. However, if you failed, then you write down the amount of your previous bet (4) at the end of the betting line, so now it will look like this: 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 4 and your next bet will be 6 (the sum of the first and last numbers). Continue with this system until you have crossed out all the figures, won an amount you are satisfied with or you have lost your whole budget for this game.
There are also other versions of the Labouchere system, the second most popular is called a “reverse system of Labouchere”. When you win using this system, you write the sum of the figures at the end of the sequence and if you lose, cross these numbers out.
Reverse System of Labouchere
The core of this strategy is that instead of writing the numbers that have failed, you write winning numbers at the end of each sequence. When your figures fail, you cross them out. This system works if you've set a particular goal and after reaching it you can start the game over. Note that it will be safe to begin the game with small stakes, raising it smoothly. Using the above examples your betting line would start like this: 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 2. Again your first bet would be 4, if you win then the number 4 is written at the end of your line so it looks like this: 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 4 and your next bet would be for 6 pounds. If you lose then you remove the first and last numbers and your betting line looks like this: 2 - 1 - 1 - 2 and your next bet would be for 4 pounds. Again continue with this system until you have crossed out all the figures, won an amount you are satisfied with or you have lost your whole budget for this game.
Be aware, that you'll need to write down the results of the game on paper and the majority of live casinos don't allow their players to make any notes. So this strategy will be more suitable for online clubs like Bet365 casino.
Both of these systems are simple and convenient to use and there is no need to perform complicated operations, just carefully follow the sequence of numbers. So even a new player can apply them and get some good results. However, in gambling 99% of the end result depends not on strategies and schemes, but on your luck. It's very hard to cheat at roulette and predict which colour or number comes next, because it doesn't comply with any rules.
Instead of using various methods, try to rely on your intuition. Remember – fortune favours the brave.
